Do I need an account or a plan to use Spectacle?
No. Spectacle Desktop is the whole app, free and open source under GPL-3.0, with no account. Canvases, the AI chat, local models and your own API keys all work without signing in. A plan only adds Spectacle Cloud: managed AI, snapshot links and live jams.
What is an AI credit?
One credit is $0.01 of model use. Each request is charged at the real cost of the model that ran, so a quick answer costs a fraction of a credit and a long reasoning task costs more. You choose a model, or let Auto pick.
What does "every 30 days" mean?
Credits are counted over a rolling 30-day window. Each request counts for 30 days after you make it and then frees up, so there is no reset date to wait for.
What happens if I run out?
The chat keeps working on local models and your own keys, which are never limited. On Pro and Team you can buy a top-up from $5; it is used after your plan credits and lasts 12 months. Top-ups aren't available on Free or during a trial.
Can I try cloud AI for free?
Yes, with a 7-day Pro trial. It needs a card and becomes Pro when it ends unless you cancel; we email you before it does. The trial includes 100 credits, and your full 600 start with the first payment. The Free plan itself has no cloud AI, but local models and your own keys work on every plan.
How does pooling work on Team?
Each seat adds 1,200 credits to one balance the whole team draws from, so a heavy user is covered by a lighter one.
How do trials and annual billing work?
Pro has a 7-day free trial, one per person. Team has no trial: try everything on Pro first. Annual billing is $144 a year for Pro and $240 per seat a year for Team, instead of $16 and $24 a month.
Can I cancel at any time?
Yes, from billing settings. Your canvases were never stored with us, so cancelling changes nothing about your work: the app, local AI and your own keys keep running.
Does cloud AI see my whole canvas?
It sees what the conversation is reading, which shows as chips you can remove. Notes marked Sensitive are only ever sent to a local model, enforced in code.
